Statement about church building access – 12th May 2020
Dear All
Following the Prime Minister’s statement about the conditional phased loosening of lockdown, I am aware that many are understandably wondering about the implications for the use of the church building. Simply put,
The church building remains closed for public worship or private prayer for the time being.
Whereas there have been some very limited relaxations of the use of the building, for example, the clergy are now able to enter the building alone for prayer and potentially to live-stream services, this does not represent a re-opening more generally.
We continue to show love for our neighbours by not gathering, and by not increasing the risk of transmission by using the church building. For many of us, this is an upsetting reality, but this is an era where the Church, Christ’s body on earth, must demonstrate its willingness to take up its cross, and deprive itself for the sake of our neighbours. For many of us, this involves sacrifice as we dearly love the church building, but this is the sacrifice of love for those we share our community with.
Please continue to access our church website for weekly sermons and craft ideas, for regular bible reflections and aids to prayer, and please contact the clergy if there is anything you need.
God bless you.
Steve
